Salvia
(Salvia divinorum)
Salvia is a perennial herb native to the Sierra Mazateca in Oaxaca, Southern Mexico. The Mazatec people traditionally used it for spiritual healing and divination. Salvia is the first of three sacred plants the apprentice shamans contact with, followed by morning glory seeds and psilocybin mushrooms.
The psychoactive compound in salvia is Salvinorin A.
Used medicinally and recreationally today, dried salvia leaves or extracts are usually smoked in a pipe, bong or joint. The effects are unlike other psychedelics like psylocibin or LSD and are short-acting. The experience, although can be intense, only lasts around 5 minutes.
